Gas Kimishima: Pottery, flowers and sushi

Tring Farmers Market  :  The Marketplace, Brook Street, Tring   9.00am - 12.15pm

Next Market: 30th August 2008

Anagama is the Japanese word for a cave kiln and originated from kilns in ancient times. My anagama design was based on various Japanese mediaeval kilns, and when I met Michio Furutani (1946 - 2000) in Shigaraki, Japan, an outstanding potter and a master kiln-builder, he kindly passed on to me his secret techniques of anagama building.

Look through the series of photographs below - these illustrate the building of my latest kiln in Cheddington and the firing of another kiln built near Aylesbury.

My pottery is all hand-made and fired in a hand-built, wood-fired, Anagama kiln
